Cambodia is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, with incredible historical sites. If you’re planning on visiting Cambodia as a tourist, the easiest option is to get an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) Visa. Here’s a quick guide to the process, including the costs associated with it.
Who needs a Visa to visit Cambodia?
Every tourist who is not a citizen of an ASEAN nation needs a Visa to visit the Kingdom of Cambodia. The good news is that they are easy to obtain and very cost-effective! Unless you are a citizen of Afghanistan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, or Nigeria, you can use the ETA Visa to enter Cambodia. Tourists visas are good for up to 30 days from date of entry.
How is the ETA Visa different?
There are two different kinds of Visas for tourists: ETA (often called an E-Visa) and Visa-on-Arrival. The ETA is a tiny bit more expensive but well worth it. You can be easily issued a visa-on-arrival, but sometimes these can take time (long lines! Especially after a lengthy flight) and delay travel plans. By getting the ETA visa, you know you’re able to enter the country, and you already have the documents with you.
The ETA is just a piece of paper you bring with you (we recommend keeping 2 copies; you have to give one to the customs officer), whereas the V-O-A requires you carry two extra passport photos with you and your Visa fee in US dollars, and you have to fill out an application on site.
Also, ETAs are accepted at the most popular entry points in Cambodia, including Siem Reap (REP) International Airport, Phnom Penh (PNH) International Airport, Cham Yeam (Koh Kong) border crossing (Thailand), Poi Pet (Banteay Meanchey) border crossing (Thailand), and Bavet (Svay Rieng) border crossing (Vietnam). You can leave via any crossing or departure point.
How much does it cost for an ETA Visa for Cambodia?
Both visas cost US $30, but the ETA has an added processing cost of $7, so it costs $37. Just go to https://www.evisa.gov.kh/ to fill out the simple and quick application. You just need your passport, a passport photo, and a Visa or Mastercard.
How long does the ETA Visa take?
Usually, it doesn’t take any longer than about three business days to get your ETA Visa, but it can (rarely) take up to two weeks. And you can do it well in advance; Cambodian visas have a validity date of 90 days (don’t confuse this with the 30-day visit limit). As long as you know your date of entry, it’s really easy to plan ahead and get your E-Visa taken care of.
